 A tradition of quality

For Ron and Cathy Vohs, their business is about family, quality cattle, the grass of the Flint Hills, and doing something they love all while producing profitable seedstock for their customers.

Their cattle ranching heritage stretches back more than 50 years. In the early 1950s Ron’s mother and father purchased their first Angus bull. At the time Angus bulls were used on a Shorthorn based cow herd to naturally dehorn the calves.

However, they were impressed with the increased quality and performance found in the Angus-sired calves. In 1956, a group of registered Angus heifers were added to the herd. This was the beginning of Vohs Angus Farm. Angus cattle are what Ron knows best. He has seen the breed survive many changes and extremes, and these days the Vohs family feels that Angus are the top breed in the business.

Today the family’s small but quality herd allows them to focus on superior genetics. Their strict use of A.I. and embryo transfer (E.T.) allows them to use top-flight Angus genetics, while creating added consistency within their herd. The Vohs also ultrasound both bulls and females each year to help them select superior genetics.

Their cooperator herds allow them to extensively propagate top genetics, while still maintaining the quality they are known for. “If it’s not proven, then it won’t be a part our program,” says Ron Vohs. Keeping with this philosophy, the Vohs purchased 50 stacked pedigree females from Fink Beef Genetics in 2004. Today the top-end of these are serving as donors for their E.T. program.

Vohs Angus Farm females need to be highly fertile, easy fleshing, structurally correct individuals with top quality udders that can raise a calf that will make a profit. Bulls produced by such females will pass on these traits along with optimum growth to make the commercial cattleman money.

At Vohs Angus Farms you can be sure to find balanced-trait seedstock that will improve their customers’ profitability and ultimately provide the consumer with the highest quality beef.

The Vohs welcome all inquiries about their program. They are dedicated to their cattle, customers and family, and will do what it takes to ensure your investment in their program meets and exceeds your expectations.
